Americas Cup Village, Urban design

Our first assignment we were given to start of our Masters of Architecture, was to design the village for the Americas cup 2021, in Auckland.
After looking at proposed plans for the Wynyard quarter on Auckland's water front we were then briefed to design our own version for the Americas Cup.
I decided to put canals through the wharf dividing it into ten islands, for the team bases to sit on five of those islands, and the other five to be used for retail, hospitality and public spaces.
Matuku Education Center

Matuku Education center project is located at the top of a wetlands in Bethells, Auckland.
For this project i was required to renovate an existing barn on the site, as well as designing a new building to be used as an education center and cafe.
This project was one of five chosen by the board of the charity who owns the site, as a design to pursue further.
I modeled and designed this building on Sketchup.

Team Base for Americas Cup

For this assignment we were to focus further into our previous assignment of the Americas Cup village. I chose to design a Team base for New Zealand team Emirates.
The limitations to the project were that the structure had to span 40m and had to be a minimum of 40m long in order to house the sailboat. It also had to be able to be entered for the water for the boat.
The idea for my design was to have a sail that spanned 80m,in order to get the appropriate height, this was to represent the sails of the America cup. The Curved Glulams were used not only for structural purposes but also to represent the ribs from the hull of a boat.
